Micro discharges called streamers produce non-thermal electron population through the formation of plasma filaments produced by high localised space charge waves, which enhances the applied electrical field in the wave front and propagate by the electron avalanche in this field.Streamers yield good power efficiency since the ions are stationary and hence do not consume power.Steamers are generated using sub-microsecond high voltage pulses (corona discharges) or with dielectric coating on the electrodes (dielectric barrier discharges).
Atmospheric pressure non thermal plasmas are useful in environment medical applications where a dilute pollutants has to be passivated in the flue gas treatment.Here we have developed the high voltage instrumentation necessary to produce such plasmas.
